Mrs. Irwin possesses a strong background in animal welfare, including work as a humane educator and public relations coordinator for animal welfare organizations. She serves as newsletter editor and event volunteer for the Casper Humane Society and assists with transporation and home visits for various pet rescue groups, including English Springer Spaniel Rescue of America.

Additionally, she has been a writer and public relations professional for more than 20 years. Mrs. Irwin served as editor and reporter for the West Yellowstone News (Montana), reporter for the Douglas Budget (Wyoming) and Bitterroot Star (Montana); as special correspondent for the Island Park News (Idaho) and the Wisconsin Dells Events (Wisconsin) as well as copy editor and freelance writer for the Casper Journal (Wyoming). Mrs. Irwin's other credentials include serving as educator for a variety of humane and environmental organizations, including education coordinator for the Grizzly Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, Montana and volunteer, education, and public relations coordinator for the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center (Casper, Wyoming), for which she was given several state and national awards.
She contributes articles about animals and the environment through her monthly pet column in Our Town - Casper, writing content for the River Press newspaper (Fort Benton, Montana) and for the Missouri River Breaks Interpretive Center (also in Fort Benton), for which she has developed children's activity booklets and several brochures. Mrs. Irwin also writes for blogs, e-newsletters, and other online content sites. She enjoys speaking to groups about companion animals and other topics.

A new book about Sage tentatively titled "Learning to See: Life Lessons Learned from My Blind Dog" is scheduled for publication Fall 2012 by Cladach Publishing of Colorado. This Christian-themed book will continue Sage's legacy and provide valabule insights and life lessons through Mrs. Irwin's life with Sage from adoption of this special dog in 2001 to Sage's sudden illness and passing in spring 2012.
